Andrew Cargill

Andrew is from Van Buren, a small town adjacent to Fort Smith, Arkansas. He graduated with a BS in Biology at the University of Arkansas in Fort Smith in 2018.

Since then, he has accumulated 4 years of laboratory experience specializing in quality control. Beginning at Pernod Ricard in Fort Smith, he analyzed alcoholic samples to ensure quality products to customers. If you’re a fan of Jameson, Kahlua, or Seagram’s products, rest assured knowing he tested these products – start to finish.

From there, he dove into the cannabis industry in early 2021. He served as a Quality/Safety Control Director in a cannabis lab for a year before opening his own consulting business. He focused on aiding labs in set-up, development and research.

He now joins us at GreenLeaf Labs – testing your samples for potency and pesticides to ensure safe consumption.

Educational degrees include a B.S. in Biology with a Chemistry Minor, an M.S. in Botany with an emphasis in Horticulture, and a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology with a focus in fungal plant diseases. Graduate research was centered on the development a weather driven model to control Pecan Scab in commercial pecan orchards in Oklahoma. The Pecan Scab Model operates on the Oklahoma Mesonet weather system during the growing season.

Postdoctoral research was conducted at the Kearney Agricultural Center near Parlier, CA through the U.C. Riverside Campus. My work there was to develop a similar model to predict a fungal disease on Pistachio in the Central Valley. Later, I managed a research lab for Dr. Adaskaveg where we tested Novel (unregistered fungicides) on stone fruit trees and fruit. We also tested samples of Navel oranges for a fungal disease on lots of fruit being shipped to Korea. Disease lesions from the fruit were tested with both agar plating and PCR methods. Results were sent to the USDA.

My personal interests are many, but my favorites are gardening (traditional and hoophouse) and caring for a small orchard. I enjoy spending time with my family and cooking.
